The boys' school did a great job covering the election. They had an assembly the day before and learned about elections and voting. Then on the 4th all of the kids got a chance to go in a real voting booth and cast their vote. Gavin got to announce the winner, John McCain, at the end of school.
After school we were talking about the whole process and Darin asked the boys who they voted for and Garrett said, "John McCain." Darin asked him why and he said, "Because Obama wants to send soldiers to Iraq and I like soldiers and don't want them to go there, and he smokes, and he doesn't believe in God." I have NO idea where he got these random 'facts', but he was deadset that they are true.

Megan's classmates told her to vote for McCain because the "guy with dark skin" (seriously!!) is bad for the money. I told her that the guy she voted for wants to send Daddy to Iraq and whoa, she was hysterical. I assured her that her vote didn't really count. Then I explained that we have plenty of money to pay taxes to help the poor people. The next day a girl told her that I LIED to her and that the new president is going to take money from the poor people and give it to the rich. I asked her if this was the girl who didn't know how to write 24. I'm about ready to go have a smack down with a 6 year old for calling me a liar. I told Megan no more politics at school! I fear that kids are not the only ones who were misinformed... I think my mom really thinks Obama is a terrorist. ARGH
