Uncle Wilbur

It was beautiful outside Saturday. The boys had morning baseball practice and couldn't be bothered with hiking today, so we decided to go on a picnic downtown. The kids had a blast running in and out of this little fountain called Uncle Wilbur.

Our little artist

Garrett loves art....loves to draw, loves to learn about 'real' artists, wants more than anything to acquire some 'real' art, loves to visit art museums, etc. Yaya has a couple of 'real' art pictures from some beach artist and Garrett was very impressed by them. He wanted to know...."If yaya dies or gets tired of her 'real' art do you think I could have one of them?" So, my mom brought him some 'real' art from Mexico, a little tiny painted canvas with a magnet on the back. He loved it, but he wanted to know who the artist was, yaya told him it was a guy in Mexico. That wasn't about to cut it, Garrett wanted to know the artists name (and many other things). So, Yaya, who of course does not know his name, quickly responds with Jose, so our thanks goes out to Jose for some 'real' art.
Now, back to Garrett and art. He is truly amazing. He loves to draw and will do so for hours (that's saying a lot for those of you that know Garrett and his activity level). He loves to buy/check out drawing books. His latest book is about bugs. He bought it at the used bookstore, and I was a little worried because it looked pretty hard, but check out these drawings!!!! He did these all alone while Gavin and Kierstin were watching TV and I was making dinner.

More Hiking!

We never seem to get tired of hiking, so hopefully faithful blog readers don't get tired of hearing about it!! Last weekend we discovered a new area to hike called Red Rock Canyon. It was beautiful, lots of red rock formations, but not overpopulated like Garden of the Gods. There are many trails to choose from so we just let the kids pick left or right at every intersection. It was very easy hiking....great for the kids.

Sky Sox

We kicked off our summer with a Sky Sox game. Garrett's friend, Gage, was nice enough (well his parents, I guess) to invited us to share their box seats. The kids had a great time eating cookies the size of their heads, pigging out on chips, peanuts and soda, and goofing around....oh we were there to watch a ball game, oh well maybe next time.

Last Days of School

School is out!!! The boys are excited to be out for the summer and in the same breath complaining that they have nothing to do! Gavin has started a blog...I made it by invite only, so if you're interested in reading it let me know and we'll invite you!

Gavin's class went swimming for their year end party....he was testing out his snorkeling gear for our upcoming trip.

Garrett made it through Kindergarten with flying colors. Here he is at graduation getting a diploma from the principal.

Kierstin was excited to see her friend, Stefan, at graduation.

Kierstin finished princess school and is ready to take over the world!

Ghost Town Museum

We went to the Ghost Town Museum this past weekend. It was very small, but had some interesting stuff and the kids seemed to enjoy it. They were fascinated by the player piano, the heavy iron (not that they ever see a modern one in use), the butter churn, etc.

We got to pan for gold, Garrett was disappointed that we didn't walk away with millions of dollars!!!

First Hike of '08

We went on our first hike of the season this past weekend. The weather was amazing on Sunday. My parents are here visiting on their way across the country. We went on the Mid-Columbine trail in N. Cheyenne Canyon. It was pretty steep, we've done some better hikes with the kids, but we still had a good time. The scenery was amazing. Notice Garrett's hat...let me tell you this hat matches everything!

Gavin and Kierstin at Garrett's soccer game. Garrett had a great season. His team won every game except one.

Garrett's Field Day

Garrett's kindergarten class had field day last week. They did all kinds of races.....egg race (the only photos I have because I was running that one), 3 legged race, duck, duck, goose, and other games. They had a good time. Garrett was a little disappointed because Gavin told him about the 3rd grade field day and it, of course, was much more elaborate. At the end of the fun day, they took a photo of the am and pm kg classes together......Garrett wasn't really into that and it definitely shows! See if you can find my pouting tow head!

Kierstin's Birthday Party

Kierstin had a blast at her birthday party. Her best friends came to help her celebrate. They planted flowers in terracotta pots that they painted and bounced around in a princess castle moon bounce!! Great fun. Nancy and Devon came all the way from Kansas to help her celebrate.....she was thrilled that they came for her birthday, and now the boys are expecting the same royal treatment.

Kierstin wanted cupcakes for her birthday, so we came up with this flower cake.
