The days of the week, by Garrett

I love listening to kid conversations in the car. I think they don't realize that you can hear them, so they just chat away. The other day, Garrett and his friend, Gage, were riding along talking about random kindergarten things. Garrett said, "I have new names for the days of the week, like Weird Wednesday." Gage said, "Oh yah, like Crazy Monday." Garrett replied, "No, it has to start with the same letter like Fun Fursday." We're working on it!!!

Why watch American Idol?

The boys are enjoying American Idol this year. We were watching it tonight and Garrett said, "It really doesn't make any sense to watch American Idol, it seems like you should just listen to it." Good point!

Princess Restaurant

Here's Kierstin all dressed up with no where to go, so she decided to make me some dinner!

Gavin's birthday party!

Gavin's actual birthday isn't for another week and a half, but we had his birthday party this weekend. He had a Mystery Party. He invited four friends and they were all given assignments to dress up like certain people (sleuth, karate kid, snake trainer, soccer player). Gavin was detective and Garrett was a alligator wrestler. While they were eating pizza, the birthday gifts were stolen and clues were left behind. They had to solve all kinds of riddles and puzzles and run all around the yard gathering clues before they found the gifts. Gavin said it ranked up there with the best birthday party ever. Here's some evidence of the fun.

Don't even know what to say!!! What a goofy guy!

Soccer starts

Garrett had his first soccer game of the season this weekend. Most of his teammates were on his team in the fall. They played a great game. Garrett really enjoys it.

Pinewood Derby 2008

The Pinewood Derby was this weekend. The kids had fun watching their cars race down the track. We were unpleasantly surprised to see all the parent created cars!! It was unbelievable, so many of the cars were obviously not made by a kid (not even painted)....pretty ridiculous. Gavin's car was pretty fast, but didn't win him any awards. Garrett's car did alright in the sibling race, but no trophy. Garrett wasn't letting that get in the way though. He went and borrowed a trophy and asked grandma to take his picture. I don't have a copy of the photo, but it was pretty cute!

Annie

The boys, Grandma Dot, and I went to see Annie, part of the Broadway in Colorado Springs series. It was fantastic. Grandma Dot and I loved it. The boys really enjoyed it too, but it lasted until about 10 pm, which is well past their bed time, so they were exhausted by the time we left.

Garrettism

We had several Garrettism's on our trip, but I can't remember them...so I'll post them as I remember. We were all at the swimming pool. Gavin was swimming in the big pool, Kierstin was wandering, and we were all hanging out. We looked over and Garrett was in the hot tub with an older couple - probably 70 or so. He was just talking up a storm with them. My mom went over and got in the hot tub with him. He turned his back to them and looked at my mom and mouthed, "They're British." Understandably she didn't know what he was saying. He whispered it. Still no comprehension. So, he sighed and said aloud, "They're British, they're from Britain." When Garrett got out of the hot tub the couple told him goodybye. My mom told Garrett to say goodbye, but he wouldn't, he just kept walking. My mom asked him why he wouldn't say bye and he said, "Because they're British and I don't think they can understand me very well." I think he was figuring it was so hard for him to understand them, it must work the other way around.
Next he came over to talk to me. I asked him what he was talking about with his new friends. He said they were asking him things like how old he was. I asked him if he answered their questions. He chuckled and said, "I told them I was 5." I said, "Oh, man, did you forget you were six?" He kind of shook his head yes, and then the true tall tellin' Garrett took over and said, "Oh, no, because in Britain their time is different, so I'm really five in Britain."

Spring break

Our spring break fun started on Monday when we met Misty's parents in Orlando. We went to Universal Studios (the pits compared to Disney, but we had to try something different), we also visited Sea World and Gatorland. The first part of the week was cold, but it warmed up and we were able to spend a lot of time at the pool toward the end of the week. We had planned on visiting Sea World's new water park, Aquatica, on Friday. We waited until about noon to go and when we showed up, the park was full....as in no more people allowed!!!! We were all relieved we hadn't decided to go earlier and actually have to spend the day with the park at full capacity....that would have been a nightmare. Nothing like wall to wall half naked people, yuck! Instead we spent the afternoon at the pool, the kids had just as much fun - perhaps more considering how much Garrett likes to stand in line!

Gavin's favorite ride was Jurassic Park River Adventure...it was a log ride type ride with the steepest hill I have ever seen on that type of ride. Garrett loved Men In Black....like Buzz Lightyear at Disney, but you shoot aliens. Kierstin loved E.T., she went on it probably 5 or 6 times and still talks about it.

Kierstin riding the Caro-seussel in Seuss land Universal

Kierstin was in awe at Shamu and didn't have her finger in her nose when I fist started to snap this shot.

Garrett bought a stuffed bear at Sea World and hasn't slept without it since.

Kierstin's favorite ride on the trip was E.T. One night when she was falling asleep she murmered, "E.T. phone home."

Notice Misty is not in the nasty critter photo!

Kierstin was beside herself when she got to meet Dora.

Exhaustion!!! Here's how Kierstin and Garrett felt on the drive home from the airport.

Denver Museum of Nature and Science

We flew to Florida from Denver and decided to stay in Denver the night before and take the kids somewhere that day. We went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (thanks for the suggestion, Paca). It was a great museum, very interesting exhibits for everyone. Gavin and Garrett both loved the space exhibit. Gavin was fascinated by the escalator where they had cut out the wall on the side and covered it with plexiglass. They all enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. Garrett loved the gems and minerals section. Kierstin liked the animals - a taxidermy festival for all. There actually were some pretty cool animals on display, all sorts of bears, bison, etc.
